An Enriching Journey Along the Walgun Cape Byron Loop Trail
The tour covers the 3.7 km Walgun Cape Byron Lighthouse Loop Trail, starting at Clarkes Beach and weaving through the serene Tallow Ridge Walking Track, where lush coastal rainforests lead to breathtaking views at the Cape Byron Lighthouse. From this elevated vantage point, visitors can soak in panoramic views of the coastline before continuing along the Cape Byron Walking Track past Wategos Beach, The Pass, and back to Clarkes Beach.
This inspiring circular walk, which requires moderate fitness, is not just about exploring stunning landscapes but also about engaging deeply with the area’s ancient cultural heritage.
Cultural Stories and Teachings
Led by Delta Kay, a highly respected Arakwal Bundjalung woman, the tour offers more than just picturesque views. Delta shares Dreaming stories, giving guests insight into the spiritual and cultural significance of the region. Visitors also learn about native bush foods, natural medicines, and tools traditionally used by the Arakwal people.
Wildlife enthusiasts may spot dolphins, koalas, sea eagles, and wallabies, adding another layer of wonder to the journey.
Award-Winning Indigenous Tourism
Delta Kay’s company, Explore Byron Bay, has been offering Indigenous-themed tours for over five years, winning gold for Excellence in Cultural Tourism at the Northern NSW Tourism Awards. Her tours are celebrated for fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of the Arakwal Bundjalung culture, blending storytelling, nature, and hands-on experiences.
Delta says:
“Our tours are a meaningful blend of culture, nature, and inspiration—perfect for anyone seeking a deeper appreciation of Byron Bay’s heritage. I believe this understanding leads to a stronger feeling of belonging for locals and deeper respect from visitors.”
A Unique Perspective of the Lighthouse
While the Cape Byron Lighthouse is a well-loved European landmark, this tour infuses the experience with the rich Aboriginal narrative, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the land’s history. Delta explains:
“The Lighthouse is such a European symbol, and the fact that we can infuse the Aboriginal narrative into the experience provides a truly unique viewpoint that will give visitors a much richer perspective of the Byron region.”
