Sydney will cement its reputation for world-class major events with a summer sports extravaganza that will entice local and interstate visitors to the Harbour City.
The NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, has secured the Rugby Tri-Nations 2020 Series and Sydney SuperFight, the biggest boxing event of the decade.
Sydney's summer events calendar also features highly anticipated cricket fixtures - the Women's Big Bash League, iconic New Year's Test Match and the T20 International Series - which will see Australia take on rival India at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres welcomed visitors to enjoy Sydney's brimming summer of sport program.
“Our impressive line-up of world-class sporting events is incredibly exciting, not only for NSW residents, but for interstate sports-fans who have been waiting patiently to attend their first live-sports match since the start of the pandemic,” Mr Ayres said.
Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer, Steve Cox said Sydney continued to set the standard for hosting globally recognised major events.
“NSW is leading the way when it comes to hosting COVID-safe events and we can't wait to welcome players, officials and their dedicated fans for what is set to be an unforgettable summer of sports in Sydney,” Mr Cox said
“NSW is wide open and ready to welcome visitors from near and far to enjoy our events in a COVID-safe way,” Mr Cox said.
The Australian Wallabies and the Argentinian Pumas will compete in the Rugby Tri-Nations, with the final match to be played in Sydney on 5 December 2020.
Sydney Super Fight will feature up and coming Australian boxer star Tim Tszyu as well as ex-NRL legend Paul Gallen and ex-UFC star Mark Hunt, with the event to be staged at Bankwest Stadium on 16 December.
