PORT DOUGLAS CARNIVALE PROGRAM BEWITCHING

The Street Parade
From being fired 60 metres up in a slingshot to a sitting-room only gourmet lunch to rocking out with the coolest daddy of them all - this year’s Port Douglas Carnivale has it all.

The program for the 2018 Port Douglas Carnivale is launched today with 15 events packed into three days from May 25-27.

Among the highlights will be a performance from Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock frontman Ross Wilson with his new band The Peaceniks on May 26, shows in the Wonderland Spiegeltent that extend from racy adult circus Rouge to gifted comic Akmal Saleh and the incredible Seafood Extravaganza which will turn a Port Douglas marina into a boardwalk buffet on May 27.

Popular Carnivale signature event The Longest Lunch on May 25 will be catered by Ochre, which has a reputation for innovative fine dining.

This year Port Douglas Carnivale will cast its spell with the theme Tropical Magic for the fan favourite – The Street Parade.

Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said the three-day festival “is an iconic event that showcases the vibrant and laid-back culture we are known for.

“It’s a tropical fusion of food, performances and activities that puts the best of Port Douglas on a pedestal for all to see,” she said.

The Tropic Magic theme gives the float designers and costume makers of the Macrossan Street Parade complete license to go over the top with a colourful, pulsating and magically madcap event. The May 25 event ends with an eruption of fireworks at 8pm.

For those who want the best view in the house at Carnivale, dare to ride Australia’s tallest and fastest mobile amusement park attraction.

The Slingshot was the Gold Award winning ride at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show. Standing over 45m tall with a speed of up to 160kph in 1.5 seconds, passengers experience 5G as they are shot 60m into the air.

Back on the ground, Carnivale is also home to Late Night Burlesque, Circus Wonderland, a Tropic Nights Light Show, arts exhibitions, yachting’s Quicksilver Raceweek, AFL action and a bumper Family Beach Day.
