LAWDY, MISS CLAWDY! PARKES ELVIS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCE HUGE 2018 PROGRAM

Primp that pompadour, start swiveling those hips, and get ready to rock’n’roll –Parkes Elvis Festival is back! From Wednesday 10 – Sunday 14 January 2018, over 25,000 people will shake, rattle and roll into Parkes for the biggest tribute to the King in the Southern Hemisphere.

Announced today, the 2018 Parkes Elvis Festival program is jam-packed full of hip-swiveling good times, including the headline Feature Concert Series, Elvis Gospel Service, the Northparkes Mines Street Parade, non-stop free entertainment at the ARTC Cooke Park Main Stage,Goodsell Machinery Miss Priscilla Dinner, competitions, dancing, and plenty more!

Starting out at as a small get together between likeminded Elvis fans in 1993, the Festival has grown today into an internationally renowned phenomenon endorsed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

This year’s Festival theme is the ’68 Comeback Special, in celebration of 50 years since the King appeared on television in a special unplugged style performance that helped re-launch him back into the music industry. Expect plenty of pomade and loads of black leather.

Festival Director, Cathy Treasure said, “The Festival is back and bigger than ever, celebrating the 50 year anniversary of one of the truly great television moments in music history and Elvis’ resurgence into the music industry. We have all your Festival favourites returning, plus plenty of great new highlights, with special performances from world-renowned Elvis tribute artists, and not one, but two fantastic rail services to get you into Parkes in style.”

NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall was in Parkes today to launch the 2018 program, which is proudly supported by the NSW Government.

“The Parkes Elvis Festival has become one of the state’s most iconic regional events and is a true testament to the community spirit of this wonderful region,” Mr Marshall said.

“From the great entertainment, colourful costumes and country hospitality, it’s little wonder this event continues to attract visitors from across Australia every year. I congratulate the Festival organisers on their achievements and developing an exciting 2018 Festival Program which will be one not to miss.”

Tickets are on sale now to all events including the 2018 Feature Concert Series featuring multi-award winning UK Elvis tribute artist Ben Thompson for the first time in Australia. Ben will perform four high-energy shows at Parkes Leagues Club, showcasing the King’s greatest hits from the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies. Ben’s performances are backed by the eight-piece Elvis In Concert Band, bringing to life the moves, looks, and that iconic voice.

A new train service, the Blue Suede Express will join the Elvis Express this year, featuring luxury heritage passenger train the Blue Zephyr and plenty of onboard entertainment. The 2018 Miss Priscilla Dinner on Thursday 11 January will featuring a special performance by Parkes’ 2016 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist winner Jack Gatto, and will see the crowning of the 2018 Miss Priscilla. And don’t miss the Midnight Show at Parkes Leagues Club on Friday night, keeping festival-goers rockin’ round the clock ‘til the early morning.

Celebrate the incredible careers of this year’s Elvis Wall of Fame duel inductees, Australian rock icons Phil and Tommy Emmanuel. Held at the Wall of Fame and replica ‘Graceland’ gates at Kelly Reserve, the ceremony acknowledges the legacy of an Australian music legend every year, and marks the official start of the Festival.

The 2018 Parkes Elvis Festival will see the world’s most celebrated Elvis Tribute Artists converge on NSW’s Central West for five days of incredible live music. Aussie Elvis heartthrobs Mark Andrew and Dean Vegas will make a comeback to Parkes following rave reviews in 2017, Jacqueline Feilichreturns to Parkes after a short break from the Festival with her show She is the King and the music from Elvis’ hit films will be celebrated in Dean Rias’ show Elvis at the Movies.

The preliminary round of the international Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest also returns in 2018, with leading Elvis tribute artists across Australia and New Zealand battling it out at Parkes Leagues Club. Officially endorsed by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc, the winner will represent Parkes in the Semi Final round of the 2018 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis, USA, during Elvis Week in August.
