Outdoor Adventures in Bathurst

The Bathurst region is like a giant playground for outdoor adventures. Camping, boating and fishing are hugely popular activities, particularly in the warmer months, with plenty of places to relax and unwind in the great outdoors. As the mercury drops off during the shoulder seasons there are still an abundance of beautiful bushwalks, cycling trails, and state forests to explore.

The Bridal Track is one of the best known places for 4x4 driving and camping along the cooling waters of the Tuon and Macquarie/Wambuul Rivers.

Chifely Dam is the Bathurst region's main water catchment, with two boat ramps to launch your favourite watersports, and the Bathurst Aqua Park, an epic, inflatable pop-up playground near the shore that is the best way to cool off on a hot summer day.

Admire the incredible natural beauty of the extensive underground cave systems at Jenolan Caves and Abercrombie Caves.

Keen 4x4 drivers will enjoy traversing the hundreds of trails throughout the Sunny Corner State Forest. Or to be shown the best places off the beaten track, go with an expert the booking for a 4x4 tour with Simmo's Offroad Tours. 

During autumn, mushroom foraging is becoming an increasingly sought after activity in the region. Detour Adventures specialise in helping people find edible fungi in the State Forests around Bathurst during the peak season from April to May each year.

At any time of the year, there is still gold to be found in the rugged country around Hill End and Sofala. Novice fossickers are encouraged to take a tour with jobs gold painting tours for the best chance of finding some COA. Take the regions amazing topography at a slower pace, spotting diverse local flora and fauna on a bushwalk at Evans Crown Nature Reserve.
