The WTA awards in 2021 and 2022 are a worthy recognition for the VNAT's outstanding efforts to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic and restore the tourism industry.
VNAT has actively advised Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) to issue documents guiding localities and businesses to implement measures to respond to the pandemic, ensuring safety for tourists, community and employees.
The organization also proposed MOCST submit to the Government and the Prime Minister to promulgate financial, fiscal and social security mechanisms and policies to support businesses and employees during the pandemic.
In an effort to recover tourism industry, VNAT proposed MOCST to submit to the Government and the Prime Minister for permission to pilot reopen international tourism from November 2021, and full reopening from March 15, 2022, completely lifting travel and medical requirements.
In 2022, VNAT implemented a series of events to relaunch the market with the positive response of local tourism organizations and tourism businesses. Many tourism cooperation activities and many new tourism products were released.
Those drastic efforts and solutions were decisive for the strong recovery of Vietnam tourism industry. The domestic tourism fully recovered with nearly 80 million domestic visitor arrivals in eight months of 2022, close to the figure for the whole year of 2019. The number of international visitors to Vietnam has continuously grown, reaching 1.4 million arrivals during from January to August 2022; the average growth rate is 58% per month. Total tourism receipts reached VND 356 trillion, equivalent to 80% over the same period in 2019.
