Nagasaki Lantern Festival in Japan

During the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, lanterns line the streets in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

Although this event was originally started by residents of Nagasaki Chinatown to celebrate Chinese New Year, thanks to the visitors it draws in, it has become one of Nagasaki’s core winter activities.

It is held a 2-minute walk from Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown Station until 9th February 2020, so make sure to stop by if you're in the area on a trip to Kyushu!

There are plenty of events, such as the Emperor’s Parade, lion dances, Chinese variety arts, and plenty of food stalls to grab a bite to eat.

During this time, experience the dreamlike atmosphere of lanterns glowing throughout the city streets from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
