The Virgin Mary, Ireland's first Alcohol-Free Bar Opens in Dublin

The Virgin Mary
Ireland's first permanent alcohol-free bar, The Virgin Mary, recently opened in Capel Street, Dublin and is set to become a stand out feature on what is now one of the capital's most vibrant and diverse streets with an array of well-known socialising destinations, international cuisine restaurants and independent retailers.

The Virgin Mary Bar has the same look, feel and atmosphere of a bar, minus the alcohol. It is aimed at people who don't drink alcohol, those who sometimes don't drink alcohol or simply someone looking for a different kind of night out. Set in the heart of Dublin, it's an intimate and welcoming venue, where everybody knows your name.

The Virgin Mary Bar is the brainchild of Vaughan Yates who is also one of the creators of Poacher's, Ireland's first range of premium Irish mixers. Vaughan explains, “Dublin is an incredibly diverse city with an increasingly discerning population, so people are looking for a place where they can sit down with friends and really connect in a lively yet mindful drinking environment.”

When you combine this with the decreasing level of alcohol purchases in Ireland year on year (a decline of 1.4% per person in alcohol consumption according to Revenues clearance data 2017), there is strong evidence to back up a venture that might appear at first to be quite avant-garde.

The bar is named after the world's most popular alcohol-free cocktail, The Virgin Mary and the Dublin venue has created its own signature version of the much-loved mocktail with freshly pressed vegetable juices, a secret hot sauce recipe, and spicy infusions all created in-house. In addition to mocktails, the bar also serves a variety of alcohol-free beers, spirits and wines.

Already a hit with the locals, the Virgin Mary has just been nominated as a finalist in the Irish Bar of the Year Awards 2019 in The Innovative Bar of the Year Award category.
