Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund

Federal Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson, has announced a new $48.5 million Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund to develop the quality and range of accommodation and attractions in regional Australia.

The competitive grants program is designed to enhance the quality of tourism products in regional areas to encourage repeat visitation and longer stays by domestic and international visitors.

Grants of between $50,000 and $250,000 will be available on a fund matching basis. Applicants will need to demonstrate how their project is market responsive, improves the attractiveness of the destination, fits with the region's tourism experience and will meet long-term industry objectives. Successful grant recipients will be expected to be already working closely with regional industry partners, tourism organisations and local authorities, especially where a development approval is anticipated.

“Tourism is a vital part of Australia’s economy as Australia’s largest services export and employing almost one million Australians. With almost 50 cents in every tourism dollar spent in regional areas, this fund will help secure jobs and ensure visitors have the very best experience of regional Australia,” said Minister Ferguson.

“Boosting the quality of tourism products will help ensure Australia remains a competitive destination for both domestic and international visitors.

Tourism operators outside the Sydney metropolitan area are eligible to apply for grants to 14 December. Application forms, program guidelines, frequently asked questions and YouTube videos are available on www.ret.gov.au/tirfgrants.
