"The Last Emperor" from China Touring Australia

The Last Emperor, an exquisite production of Liaoning Ballet of China, is based on the astonishing life story of the ups and downs of the Last Emperor of China, Pu Yi. It is a European-oriented modern ballet with a unique Chinese flavor performed by Liaoning Ballet Group. The ballet won first-prize at the Third National Dance Drama Tour Performance and six individual awards as well as a Bronze Award at the Fourth China Dance Lotus Prize.

The good news for ballet lovers in the Hunter Valley is that "The Last Emperor" will be performed in Newcastle, NSW, Australia  (127 km from Muswellbrook) on 29 June, as well as other major cities in Australia. It is one of the highlights of Chinese Culture Year in Australia.

The Year of Chinese Culture in Australia, spanning from 2011 to 2012, consists of a series of cultural activities ranging from performing arts projects, visual arts exhibitions to film festivals. Experience China, aiming at strengthening the friendly relations between Australia and China as well as promoting the mutual understanding between the two peoples, will showcase the gems of China’s traditional as well as contemporary culture to present a panoramic picture of China to the Australian people.
The Liaoning Ballet was founded in 1980 and it is one of the famous Ballet Troupes in China. Liaoning Ballet produces famous ballets with Chinese character. The Liaoning Ballet Secondary School was established in 1994, and has nearly 600 students. It has already become the most important training base for ballet talents in China.
