Vietnam’s tourism industry has kicked off 2025 with remarkable growth, marking a significant recovery and expansion compared to the same period last year. According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, the country welcomed 2,070,466 international visitors in January, representing a 36.9% increase from January 2024. At the same time, domestic tourism remained strong, with 15.5 million local travelers exploring destinations across the country.
The surge in international arrivals underscores Vietnam’s growing appeal as a global travel destination. China led as the largest source of visitors, with 575,000 arrivals, followed by South Korea (417,000), Cambodia (100,000), and the United States (93,000). Other key markets included Taiwan (91,000), Japan (72,000), Australia (67,000), India (49,000), Malaysia (43,000), and Thailand (40,000). This diverse influx highlights Vietnam’s expanding reach beyond traditional Asian markets, drawing increasing numbers of tourists from North America, Australia, and South Asia.
The tourism boom has translated into substantial economic gains. Tourism receipts for January totaled VND 8.78 trillion, reflecting a strong contribution to the national economy. This growth is fueled by Vietnam’s continuous investment in infrastructure, new tourism products, and international marketing campaigns aimed at attracting more visitors year-round.
Several factors have contributed to the positive performance. Vietnam’s visa-free policies and e-visa expansion have made entry more convenient for travelers from key markets. Additionally, high-profile events, festivals, and cultural celebrations held in January attracted both domestic and international visitors. Destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc remained top choices, while emerging destinations like Quy Nhon, Ha Giang, and Ninh Binh gained popularity for their natural landscapes and unique cultural experiences.
With such a promising start to the year, Vietnam’s tourism sector is well-positioned for continued growth. Industry leaders remain optimistic that 2025 could set new records in visitor numbers and tourism revenue, further solidifying Vietnam’s reputation as one of Asia’s most dynamic travel destinations.
