Observe at the autumn leaves, which begin to turn colour from late-September, and reaches its peak viewing period at Utsukushi-ga-hara Open-Air Museum around mid-October. Explore between April 29 to November 5, 2023, from 9:00am to 5:00pm (last entry 30 mins before closing), but note winter road closures from mid-November to mid-April.

Make the thrilling climb up the ladder into the flying blowfish-like mud house suspended into the air. After that, sneak into the ‘too-low tea house’ and enjoy a local tea ceremony with matcha and sweets from a teacher dressed in kimono. Available April to November; reservations via Chino Tabi Website are essential.

4PM: Master the skill of soba-making in a beginner-friendly class at Minshuku Asahigaoka Shirakaba Lake, led by seasoned artisan Yoshitaka-san and his family, the class is held on the shore of the lake surrounded by birch trees.

After the activity, you can compare your noodles with the ones created by the master. Available from 14:30 to 17:30, this year-round experience costs approximately AU$80 and is an experience you wouldn’t want to miss!
