Welcome to sunny Kagoshima

Kagoshima
Kagoshima – the hub city of Kyushu’s southernmost prefecture renowned for its rich history, active volcano and vibrant nightlife. Let us do your planning, and you do the sightseeing, with our 1-day Kagoshima itinerary.

9AM: Begin your day with a visit to Sengan-en, built in 1658 as the former residence of the Shimadzu clan. Tour the 12 acres of the traditional gardens and soak up the calming atmosphere of the natural surrounds set against the scenic backdrop of active volcano Sakurajima and Kagoshima Bay.

While you’re there, be sure to visit Shimadzu Satsuma Kiriko Glassworks, where you’ll have the chance to watch closely at the production of the traditional cut glassware by skilled artisans. For the crafty travellers, why not try your hands at cutting one with a master craftsman?

12PM: Ensuring you don't miss out on an essential Kagoshima experience, hop on the Sakurajima Ferry at Kagoshima Port. This delightful journey will take you to Sakurajima, where you can witness one of the world's most active volcanoes up close.

Trek or cycle around to marvel at the sights of this volcanic island in all its glory. Or, join a guided tour to learn about its history as you explore around the area. After a half-day of outdoor adventure, don’t forget to stop by the 100-m long footbath near Sakurajima Port to relax your tired feet before heading back to Kagoshima City.

6PM: Spend the evening at Tenmonkan, the bustling entertainment district known for exquisite food and drinks. Hop on a tram to explore the city's main nightspots or enjoy a cozy dining experience in one of the inviting backstreets.
