If you think Japan’s larger-than-life Buddhist statues look impressive from the outside, just wait until you explore one from within!

Behold the Goddess of Kannon (Sendai Daikannon), towering at 100 metres in the city of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Venture inside the statue, and you'll encounter a sight of equal magnificence - an impressive 12 stories enshrining 108 smaller Buddhist statues.

Visitors can take the elevator or climb the spiral staircase all the way up to the 12th floor for a breathtaking view of the city and the Pacific Ocean.
