Sydney Showcased by Youngt Citizens in Photo Contest

Budding photographers across Sydney are being challenged to capture the ultimate image of the city as part of the Little Sydney Lives competition.

The exhibition and competition, open to children aged 3 to 11, is an exciting element of the City of Sydney's Art & About Sydney festival, which runs from 19 September to 12 October. Shortlisted images will be on display in Hyde Park.

“Each year Little Sydney Lives encourages creativity in our youngest citizens, and allows people who are living, working in or visiting the city to see it from a fresh perspective,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

“It's a fascinating insight into how our youngsters view their city and a wonderful opportunity for Australia's future creative artists to share their own interpretation of Sydney.”

All eyes will be on the selected 20 finalist images, which will be enlarged and exhibited in Sandringham Gardens for everyone to enjoy during Art & About Sydney.

Prizes will be awarded by a judging panel in two age categories, 3-7 years and 8-11 years, and include gifts to the value of $500 for the winner and $250 to those highly commended in each respective category.

Judges will be looking for the most creative and artistic photos.

“All you need is a camera, a keen eye and a love of photography,” said Art & About Sydney Creative Director, Gill Minervini.

Last year's winner, selected from over 300 submissions, was Freddie Payne from Manly (3-7 years) for his shot Climbing, while Mia Frater from Rozelle won first prize in the 8-11 years category for her image The Sydney Opera House Face.

Winners of Little Sydney Lives will be announced at Art & About Sydney's free, public launch party in Martin Place on Friday 19 September.
