Aussie Kids App Crowned Most Innovative in Travel

Bound Round's interactive kid's travel app has beaten more than 60 entrants to be announced the 2014 Innovation in Travel Awards Winner at Eye for Travel's Travel Distribution Summit Asia in Singapore.

After being shortlisted in the first round of competition, Bound Round CEO and Founder, Janeece Keller pitched to a crowd of more than 400 senior travel industry representatives who then voted based on criteria of innovation, product potential and excellence.

Chief Judge and CEO of Syndcast, Mr Wolfgang Jaegel, said Bound Round deserved to win: “It is refreshing to see this innovative and out of the box concept that is purely built for kids by kids - I look forward to hear more about their success in the near future.”

Others agreed Bound Round's unique focus on engaging kids was a winner.

“Travelling with kids on trips to new places can be a challenge to get them engaged in a way that plays to their interests and talks their language in a safe, digital environment,” said Mr Adrian Currie, contest judge and SVP Corporate Development, Priceline Group.

“Bound Round is an interesting concept and gaining early traction with kids as well as attractions and other leisure partners. I'll definitely be trialling the product with my 10 year old son on our next holiday,” he added.

Marriott's Area Director of Revenue Strategy, Mr Saurabh Prakash, said he thought Bound Round was brilliant and engages completely new and wonderful customers."

Ms Keller said the award was a great boost to the Bound Round team and had already generated interest from major industry representatives and investors.

“It's really exciting that our content and platform designed by kids to provide kids with more of a voice in family travel is recognised as a valuable innovation by such a large group of tourism industry experts and executives,” Ms Keller said.

The awards aimed to celebrate the hottest and most innovative travel start-ups and innovations that had been released in the past year.

App Specifics Bound Round is designed by and for 8-12 year olds to play with before and during their visit to a destination.

By capturing if they want to visit a specific location, the app provides parents with feedback from the kids on the activities they really want to do when they get there and then provides information on how to get there and opening hours.

When the kids are in a location they can create and share their own photos as e-postcards with family and friends. They can also record their adventures through text and images in the “Journal” section of the app.

The Bound Round interactive travel app is designed for iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded for free via WiFi and 3G through the iTunes App Store. Detailed destination guides already included in the app are: Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Gold Coast, Uluru, Fiji, Hong Kong, Singapore, Blue Mountains and Phillip Island.
