Baby Pandas Debut at China’s Giant Panda Breeding Center

Ten of the baby pandas born at the Ya’an Bifengxia Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center in China this year made their first public appearance together, an adorable moment for visitors to the center in southwest China’s Sichuan province. 

The babies ranged in age from a week to two months old. The center reports that 21 baby pandas have been born this year, with 20 of them surviving, an excellent rate for pandas. 

Among these 21 pandas, there were seven pairs of twins, a record for the center. There are also several female pandas who are still pregnant, so the number of babies born this year may yet set a record. 

This is a cause for celebration as the center continues to do its part to protect the giant panda species, as there are only about 1,800 left in the wild.
