Chinese Tourists Record 100 Million Outbound Trips

The China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) has announced that for the first time the number of outbound tourist departures from China has surpassed 100 million this year, with the vast majority visiting Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

According to the tourism administration Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau accounted for nearly 71 per cent of the outbound trips. Asia accounted for 89.5 percent of departures so far this year, a 161 percent increase on the 2013 figure for the continent. CNTA stated that just under 4 percent of the 100 million trips counted up to the end of last month were to Europe.

On its website CNTA said six countries South Korea, Thailand, Japan, the United States, Vietnam and Singapore have seen more than one million trips by Chinese citizens so far this year.

Simplified visa application procedures and tailored travel services have been boosting the number of Chinese outbound departures steadily for years.
