On Sunday 26 January, the winners of the Greater Taree City Council awards were announced as part of local Australia Day celebrations at the Manning Entertainment Centre.
The Wingham Akoostik Music Festival was announced by MEC Manager Jeremy Miller as the Community Event of the Year.
Festival co-ordinator Donna Ballard, accepted the award presented by Mayor Paul Hogan, on behalf of the Akoostik Festival Committee, saying she was honoured and grateful for the recognition this award bestowed on the event.
“This award will assist in future applications and shines the light on our event for the wonderful community links we create”, said Ms Ballard who thanked the 58 volunteers that made the event possible in 2013.
The festival aims to promote the Manning Valley, while supporting emerging talent, providing entertainment and employment opportunities, and building community inclusiveness and pride.
“Our event is an attraction for cultural tourism, and we aim to continue developing the event to enhance the local economy under the auspice of Manning Valley Neighbourhood Centre as a social enterprise,” Ms Ballard said.
Greater Taree City Council affirm the awards are to recognise outstanding achievement during the past year and/or contribution to the community over a number of years.
