Hanoi Plans to Expand Pedestrian Streets in Old Quarter

On October 1, vice chairman of Hanoi city People’s Committee Nguyen Van Khoi and departments, agencies and Hoan Kiem district People’s Committee held a meeting to discuss the project on expanding pedestrian areas in Hanoi’s old quarter.

The project is scheduled to expand pedestrian zones onto Hang Buom, Ma May, Hang Giay, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Ta Hien and Dao Duy Tu streets in Hang Buom and Hang Bac precincts, where many buildings date back to the 18th century.

The unique complex that includes historical sites, Bach Ma and Quan De Temples, and the old house at 87 Ma May, will create a distinguished space for the open walking area.

The streets will be made into pedestrian areas on the evenings, Friday through Sunday.

The expansion of walking streets will be a highlight for commercial and tourism activities in the capital in general and in Hoan Kiem district in particular, in the trend of integration and development.
