IFWTWA 2014 Scholarship Awards Competition Now Open

The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association, a global network of lifestyle journalists, is pleased to announce that its annual scholarship awards competition is now open.

MURRIETA, CA (August 2013)—The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) announces that its 2014 Scholarship Awards competition is now open and accepting applications in two categories:

1. Professional Journalism

2. Emerging Writer

The Scholarship Awards competition is open to non-members and requires a one-time entry fee of $25.
Scholarship winners will receive a professional certificate signed by the IFWTWA president, a one-year membership to the IFWTWA, a cash prize, and publication in Global Writes Magazine, the official travel magazine of the IFWTWA. Both awards are self-nominated.

The Professional Journalism Scholarship Award recognizes experienced, working food, wine, and travel writers who have earned more than US$500 within the last 12 months for writing. The nomination entry may be a published or unpublished article about food, wine or other beverages, travel, or combination thereof, and must be accompanied by a current resumé and an essay of 250 or fewer words about why he or she should win the Professional Journalism Scholarship Award.

The Emerging Writer Scholarship Award is given to an upcoming or aspiring food, wine, or travel writer who has earned less than US$500 within the last 12 months for writing. The nomination entry must be an unpublished article about food, wine or other beverages, travel, or combination thereof. As with the Professional Journalism Scholarship Award, the nomination entry must be accompanied by a current resumé and an essay of 250 words or fewer about why he or she should win the Emerging Writer Scholarship Award.

Both the Professional Journalism and the Emerging Writer Scholarship Awards can provide excellent benefits to the recipients. Internationally acclaimed chef David Gilbert found that winning the 2012 Emerging Writer Scholarship Award afforded him credibility as an author. He says, "[The Emerging Writer Scholarship Award] provided the ideal platform for the launch of my first book, Kitchen Vagabond, to an international audience."

The 2012 Professional Journalism Scholarship award winner Lola Akinmade-Åkerström found that winning the award has benefitted her professional presence as an international food journalist. "Connecting with fellow industry professionals and bringing more visibility to my work has been one of many honors of winning the 2012 Professional Journalism Scholarship award through IFWTWA," she says.

The deadline for entries is October 31, 2013. Interested candidates can find instructions and online entry forms on the IFWTWA website at http://ifwtwa.org/awards/scholarship-awards.
