Many of the questions came from the audience were curious about the future of Tourism industry in Myanmar post COVID-19.

As of today Myanmar has 151 cases of Covid-19. Government has extended the precautionary restriction measures related to control of covid-19 pandemic until 15th May 2020. Many people in major cities are following the government order of social distancing and staying at home.

One of the great examples is the Market at tourist town of Kalaw in southern Shan State. Officials there have come up with a simple and innovative idea; a road has been divided up into sections with white painted lines to keep each seller 6 feet apart while allowing shoppers to keep a proper distance to browse products.
“Tourism industry is facing an unprecedented challenge from Coronavirus. However we have to be resilient and we have to be prepared and hope for post-virus bounce. MTM is encouraging Travelers to Myanmar “Stay Safe – Stay Home – Visit Myanmar Later” campaign as we need to keep the travel spark alive.” said Ms. May Myat Mon Win, Myanmar Tourism Marketing Chairperson.
