Cliff-Face Elevator in China Breaks World Record

Bailong Elevator
The Bailong Elevator in China’s Zhanghjiajie National Forest Park was recently confirmed by the Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest outdoor lift.

This breathtaking mechanical marvel is built into the side of Zhangjiajie’s quartzite cliffs and stands 1,070 feet high. The ride up in one of the three double-deck elevators takes just over a minute and a half, but allows passengers incredible views of the park’s soaring karst rock formations and misty surrounds.

The elevators were recently upgraded to increase their speed and to continue their maintenance as state-of-the-art offerings.

Guinness World Records representatives called the Bailong Elevator an “amazing achievement which not only provides a convenient transportation for tourists’ sightseeing, but also saves time for supplying materials of scenic spots as well as maximising the protection of the local natural environment and ecological balance.”
