The contemporary artwork campaign was officially launched at the inaugural free members-only cocktail party, held on the Sister Cities Lawn of Cairns Esplanade to launch the 2016 season in grand style, on Thursday 7 July.
Themed, “Racing on the Great Barrier Reef”, the new branding encompasses the natural beauty of the region, showcasing a bold design of vivid colours representing brightly hued coral and tropical fish between brilliant sea and sky, along with images of a glamorous race-going couple, and of course, a striking race horse.
Cairns Amateurs Carnival CEO Graham Thornton said the new artwork evolved from a full review of the racing program, which sought to position the event as integral to the region's identity.
“We aimed to create a campaign which would better reflect the Carnival's contemporary direction as a vibrant, social event drawing on the spirit of our tropical region,” Mr Thornton said.
“We are pleased to reveal this new artwork which gives the event fresh appeal by representing not only the top-class racing and celebratory atmosphere of the Carnival, but also promotes our unique and enviable location amidst one of the world's most stunning natural environments.”
Tourism Tropical North Queensland CEO Alex de Waal said the Cairns Amateurs Carnival was an important event, attracting increased visitation as well as boosting the international profile of the region.
“Cairns Amateurs Carnival delivers a high-quality event that is famous for fun and glamour, elevating the status of Tropical North Queensland as an international tourism destination,” Mr de Waal said.
“We are proud to support this event which delivers significant economic benefit to the region each year, attracting visitors from all around the country who may come for the racing and the colourful social events, but stay to discover the many tourism offerings of Tropical North Queensland, including the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef.”
Cairns Amateurs Carnival will be held from Thursday 8 September to Saturday 10 September at Cannon Park Race Course, Cairns.
