Lonely Planet Selects Australia's Top 10 Family-Friendly Destinations

Sydney Harbour
Sydney Harbour tops the global travel authority’s list – and Qld scores three spots

To celebrate this month’s publication of Travel with Children (6th Edition), global travel authority Lonely Planet has revealed the 10 destinations it believes are the most family-friendly in Australia.

Each state and territory is represented on the list, with Sydney Harbour claiming the top spot, and Queensland scoring three individual entries (Far North Queensland & the Great Barrier Reef, Gold Coast Theme Parks, and Brisbane).

“Broad, bronzed and open-skied, Australia is built for family travel – a dazzlingly diverse country strewn with tropical reefs, surf beaches and snowy heights,” Lonely Planet says. “The vast distances between A and B can test parental patience, but with some savvy planning you can focus on the delights of exploring with people much closer to ground level than you are.”

Australia’s Top 10 Family-Friendly Destinations according to Lonely Planet are:
1. Sydney Harbour
2. Touring Tasmania
3. Darwin & the Top End National Parks
4. Far North Queensland & the Great Barrier Reef
5. Canberra
6. Gold Coast Theme Parks
7. Victorian High Country
8. Kangaroo Island
9. Brisbane
10. Southwest WA
