Showtime Events Centre Unveils a Spectacular New Look at Melbourne’s South Wharf

Melbourne’s iconic South Wharf has a fresh new reason to celebrate, with Showtime Event Group unveiling the first stage of a major refurbishment of its flagship Showtime Events Centre.

The spectacular showcase brought together around 150 guests for an evening demonstrating how the revitalised venue can transform corporate events, gala dinners, product launches, weddings and celebrations into memorable experiences.

Located beside the Yarra River at 61 South Wharf Promenade, Showtime Events Centre combines Melbourne heritage, industrial character and contemporary event design. The venue retains its distinctive warehouse atmosphere while introducing new elements designed to provide greater flexibility for modern events.

A New Era for a Melbourne Event Icon

Showtime Event Group Chief Commercial Officer Katie Tinetti said the refurbishment followed extensive consultation with staff, clients and industry stakeholders about what they valued in the original venue and what could take the offering further.

The result is a premium and modernised event space that retains its heritage features and industrial-chic personality.

One of the most striking changes is the redesign of the venue’s feature bar, creating a stronger visual centrepiece within the room. New architectural and house lighting has also been incorporated throughout the venue, giving Showtime’s creative and production teams greater scope to shape atmosphere, mood and ambience.

The transformation is part of a major investment by Showtime Event Group, with a second stage of the refurbishment planned for 2027.

Three South Wharf Venues, Three Event Experiences

The showcase extended beyond Showtime Events Centre, taking guests through two other river-facing Showtime venues on South Wharf Promenade, Cargo Hall and Aerial.

Cargo Hall offers a riverside warehouse setting with a glass Conservatory and flexible open-plan layout, while Aerial provides a contemporary environment with Yarra River and Melbourne skyline views.

Together, the three venues demonstrated how different design, entertainment, food and production concepts can create distinctive event experiences within the same South Wharf precinct.

Food Becomes Part of the Experience

Showtime Event Group’s culinary team used the showcase to highlight an evolving approach to event dining, reflecting growing demand for personalised menus and food experiences that become part of the entertainment.

Head of Culinary Karl Edmonds said the team focused on visually striking, flavour-led moments designed to surprise guests and encourage connection.

The approach demonstrates how catering, creative production, styling and event planning can work together rather than being treated as separate elements.

A Flexible Waterfront Event Venue

Showtime Events Centre provides 435 square metres of event space and can accommodate up to 280 guests for seated events or 600 for cocktail functions. Its waterfront South Wharf location also places it close to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, hotels, public transport and Melbourne’s CBD.

Beyond South Wharf, Showtime Event Group operates and manages a portfolio of distinctive Melbourne venues including Melbourne Town Hall, Rippon Lea Estate, SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium, Abbotsford Convent and Western Grounds.

With its refreshed design, heritage character and greater creative flexibility, the Showtime Events Centre refurbishment marks a new chapter for one of Melbourne’s established event venues.
