Meadow, Cronulla's new music room, bar and bistro, is now open

Adam and Kylie Micola, directors of Anyway Hospitality and owners of much-loved Bobbys in Cronulla, opened the doors to Meadow, a day-to-night music room, bar and bistro.

Located in the former Papa J’s cocktail bar site, the venue moves effortlessly from daytime dining and afternoon aperitivo through to a vibrant evenings, making it suitable for everything from casual lunch and afternoon drinks to late-night cocktails.

Adam Micola, owner, Anyway Hospitality said: “The site won us over immediately: natural light, ocean views, high ceilings and close proximity to Bobbys made it a project we had to pursue. Beyond the bones of the place, Meadow is about creating space. Space for music and conversation, a place for people to settle in from day to night without feeling rushed. We want guests to feel comfortable lingering and let the night set its own pace. Kylie and I wanted to create a venue that we’d want to visit in many different ways - date night, family catch-ups, drinks with friends - all centred around a delicious menu alongside an easy, classic drinks list.”

Group executive chef Pablo Tordesillas has designed a menu that draws inspiration from the approachable neighbourhood European bistro, featuring refined small plates and composed mains suited to any occasion. Dishes from the opening menu include: gougères, comté, Cantabrian anchovy; beef tartare toast, piparras; raw tuna, bergamot, créme fraîche, potato; braised octopus provencal, pimento’espelette; globe artichokes, onion, horseradish cream; Meadow’s aged cheeseburger, café de Paris butter; baked rigatoni, vodka sauce; grilled Kidman premium sirloin au poivre, frite; and a banana tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream.

The beverage program, curated by sommelier and wine maker Nick Rosa, is built predominantly around Australian wines, a deliberate commitment to supporting domestic producers who farm biodynamically, organically or sustainably. French sensibility shapes the list’s structure, with European classics and cult bottles from around the world alongside some of Australia’s most celebrated producers. The list spans approximately 120 to 150 wines with 15 available by the glass, and a selection of magnums including Rockford Basket Press. Cocktails keep it classic with 11 signatures, a margarita section and a selection of minis. The daily aperitivo hour, available from 4pm - 6pm, focuses on sharply priced cocktails including: French 75; white negroni, Americano and a Meadow Mary; the venues take on a classic bloody mary. Snacks include; Sydney rock oysters, mignonette; duck liver parfait, toasted baguette, onion confetti, cornichons; and house smoked ocean trout rillettes, fennel pollen, roe.

The music program at Meadow has been placed in the hands of renowned DJ and producer Mitchell Wick, with vinyl records setting the tone throughout the day, giving way to live jazz duos on weekend afternoons and late-night DJ sets. The program evolves throughout the day, adding to the feeling in the room rather than overtaking conversational moments.

The 94-seat, 120-person capacity venue has been designed by Tom Mark Henry, the studio behind Bobbys. The design is centred around a sunset palette of warm dusk tones that deepen as the night progresses. Burnt orange and terracotta banquettes are balanced by blue hues at the DJ booth, with a disco ball completing the picture. A double-sided serpentine banquette in mustard-green fabric anchors the centre of the room, whilst a feature bar in a honey-toned stone with aqua veining spans 5.8 metres.

Meadow is open for dinner Wednesday and Thursday from 5pm, and Friday -Sunday from 12:00pm - late.
