MCEC Enters the Hall of Fame as Victoria’s Premier Business Event Venue

A New Milestone for Melbourne’s Leading Event Destination

The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre has once again cemented its place at the forefront of Australia’s events industry, earning Gold for the third consecutive year in the Business Event Venue category at the VTIC Victorian Tourism Awards. This remarkable achievement has now elevated MCEC into the prestigious Hall of Fame, recognising its long-standing excellence, contribution to the tourism sector, and consistent delivery of world-class event experiences.

Celebrating Excellence in Accessibility and Inclusion

In addition to its Hall of Fame induction, MCEC was also a finalist in the Excellence in Accessible Tourism category, receiving high commendation for its ongoing commitment to inclusive and accessible event experiences. The venue continues to lead with meaningful action, including the formation of an external Accessibility Advisory Committee. This makes MCEC the first convention centre operator in Australia to embed insights from lived experience directly into its planning and operations.

Chief Executive Natalie O’Brien AM emphasised that creating welcoming spaces for people of all abilities is central to the organisation’s mission. She acknowledged the team’s dedication to fostering inclusion and delivering memorable events for every guest, highlighting that this recognition reflects their collective effort.

Victoria’s Event Capital Shines on the Global Stage

Victoria’s reputation as Australia’s major events capital was reinforced by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos, who congratulated the MCEC team. He noted that the venue’s continued accolades demonstrate its world-class facilities and the trust placed in it by industry leaders worldwide. With its prime location, innovative design, and exceptional service delivery, MCEC remains an anchor for the state’s thriving business events landscape.

Innovative Menus that Champion Sustainability and Local Flavours

MCEC’s dedication to excellence extends beyond events and into culinary creativity. The 2025 With Purpose and Something for Everyone menus have been carefully crafted to highlight local, seasonal produce while championing sustainability and inclusivity. These menus celebrate Melbourne’s rich food culture and cater thoughtfully to diverse dietary needs, ensuring an enjoyable experience for every guest.

Building the Next Generation of Event Professionals

Supporting skills development in the industry has become another cornerstone of MCEC’s impact. In partnership with RMIT University, the venue launched the Audio-Visual Technician Graduate Traineeship Program, giving trainees comprehensive, hands-on experience across a range of AV disciplines. The program has already seen five graduates complete their training, each successfully securing ongoing roles within MCEC’s audio-visual team. This award-winning initiative is shaping the next generation of event technology specialists and strengthening the industry’s future.

A Venue Setting Standards for the Nation

MCEC’s Hall of Fame induction celebrates not only its achievements but also its role as an industry leader. With a steadfast commitment to accessibility, innovation, sustainability, and community, the venue continues to raise the bar for business events in Australia and beyond.
