FRIGHTS AND DELIGHTS UNLEASHED AT THE AUSTRALIAN MUSEUM’S JURASSIC LOUNGE: HALLOWEEN EDITION

Jurassic Lounge: Halloween Edition

The Australian Museum’s beloved after-hours evening filled with science-sational fun rises again, but this year with a spooky twist … On Saturday 25 October, Jurassic Lounge: Halloween Edition sees the nation’s first museum filled with drag queens, DJs, and possibly a few mad scientists for good measure! With the early release of waitlist tickets snapped up in just three days, this fun night out for boos and ghouls is set to be a sell-out.

Strictly for ages 18 and over, the night offers an Australian Museum excursion of a different kind with MC and DJ extraordinaire Aunty Jonny teaming up with longtime collaborator Jason de Cox for pulsing beats and monster mashups, while beneath the AM’s iconic whale skeleton in Wild Planet, visitors can take part in the Silent Scream Disco, surrounded by animal displays from across the globe. Sydney Drag Royalty will join in the fun to cast their wicked spell in bite-sized performances before commanding the crowd in a monstrous dance of the damned.

The spooky side of science will also be on display, with the AM’s resident taxidermist unveiling secrets of life after death in the Mortuary Makeover session, while comic trickster AJ Lamarque joins scientists from the Australian Museum Research Institute in Dying on Stage, a chillingly funny meditation on death and what lies beyond. Locked cabinets creak open for Exoskeletons in the Closet, revealing slippery, spiney and shiny specimens. While Wailwan, Gomeroi and Pakistani performer Sara Khan shares scary bush yarns from the world’s oldest continuous culture in The Fright Stuff.

Take a trip to the crafterlife with devilish drawing workshops with scientific illustrator Sami Bayly, show off your scar with special effects artists from the Scab Lab, or come with your own twisted take on paper art with Horror-gami. And, above all else, dress to distress, with the most imaginative outfit to be awarded with prizes. Plus, tickets include entry to RELICS: A New World Rises, the AM’s latest exhibition where Minifigures have claimed the Earth in a post-human wasteland, conjured by LEGO® Masters winners Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler.
