As the heart of winter sets in, Hotham Alpine Resort is delivering one of its most exciting months yet. With 40cm of fresh snow and an 84cm base already in place, August is packed with competitions, community gatherings, and après experiences that make this high-country destination more than just a ski field—it's a celebration of mountain culture.

Elite Action on Every Turn

From 1–3 August, the slopes come alive with the Hotham Masters and Victorian Alpine Championships, where local legends and seasoned racers compete for podium glory. The following weekend, from 8–10 August, the Banked Slalom and Hammer Moguls bring a mix of speed, technical skill, and wild style to the mountain.

Mid-month sees the return of high-stakes adrenaline with the ANC Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross (13–17 August), showcasing world-class talent as elite athletes battle for position through twisting turns and jumps. The month wraps with the Oakley Slopestyle, where freestyle athletes push limits with gravity-defying tricks and smooth landings in a display of raw creativity and skill.

Empowering and Inclusive Community Events

On 9–10 August, the 15th annual Chicks Who Shred returns—an empowering, all-female shred session led by experienced riders. This free event welcomes intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders to ride, learn, and connect on Hotham’s legendary terrain.

Closing the month, the Victorian Backcountry Festival (29–31 August) invites adventurous spirits to explore beyond the lifts. With guided tours, avalanche safety workshops, and storytelling sessions, the festival embraces the freedom of alpine touring and the shared knowledge of the backcountry community.

Après and Alpine Entertainment

The energy doesn’t drop with the sun. Off the slopes, Hotham keeps the vibe alive with silent discos, trivia nights, and live music echoing from mountain bars and lodges. Whether you're carving lines by day or dancing in ski boots by night, there's no shortage of ways to enjoy Hotham after hours.
