Chiang Mai Shines Bright: Voted Best City in Asia by Travel + Leisure 2025

Chiang Mai
Thailand’s Cultural Capital Takes the Crown

Chiang Mai has officially been named the No. 1 City in Asia in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025, a proud moment for Thailand’s northern gem. Known for its tranquil mountain scenery, rich heritage, and warm hospitality, Chiang Mai also secured the No. 2 spot globally, confirming its place among the most beloved destinations in the world.

With a Reader Score of 91.94, travellers praised the city for its ancient temples, buzzing night markets, vibrant culture, and exceptional food. Ethical elephant experiences were also highlighted, with one voter calling it “a great place to see the elephants and to feed and wash them.” From the iconic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep to the slow-paced charm of its old town, Chiang Mai blends authenticity with accessibility in a way few cities can.

Bangkok and the Islands Make Their Mark

Bangkok
Not far behind, Thailand’s capital Bangkok earned a place of honour, ranking No. 3 in Asia and No. 4 globally, with a Reader Score of 91.34. Long known for its vibrant street life, sacred temples, and dynamic nightlife, Bangkok continues to be celebrated by travellers globally. Described as “the most fascinating, beautiful, and exciting city,” it stands as a symbol of Thailand’s modern-meets-traditional appeal.

In the Best Islands in Asia category, Thailand once again proved its tropical dominance. Phuket claimed the No. 4 spot, recognised for its white-sand beaches, luxury resorts, and marine activities. Just behind, Ko Samui ranked fifth, loved for its relaxed pace, tropical scenery, and welcoming atmosphere.

With these accolades, Thailand continues to strengthen its standing in the global travel scene. These wins are not just awards—they are reflections of the nation’s commitment to hospitality, cultural preservation, and world-class experiences.
