M.I.K Corporation has got an investment certificate to develop a five-star hotel on nearly four hectares at Bai Dai Eco-tourism Park on the resort island of Phu Quoc off mainland Kien Giang Province.
The investor will start work on the US$100-million project in Ganh Dau Commune northwest of Phu Quoc Island next month. The hotel with 300 guest rooms and six conference halls is expected to come online in 2017.
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) on June 16 clinched a contract with M.I.K to manage the Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay. According to M.I.K, Singapore’s Eco ID is the designer of this hotel.
There are over 390 hotels under the Crowne Plaza brand in 60 markets. Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay is the first of its kind on the island and the third in Vietnam after the properties in Ha Noi and Da Nang.
Leanne Harwood, vice president of IHG’s Operations in South East Asia, said in a statement that Phu Quoc is going through exciting times.
“We have seen the positive impact that development of the new international airport has bought, and the upcoming expansion of the cruise terminal will also help drive tourism. The visa-free entry for a series of travelers has also helped growth in visitor arrivals,” Harwood said.
John Lim, chief executive officer of M.I.K Corporation, said the Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay was the firm’s second project on Phu Quoc Island after the Sol House Phu Quoc.
The island has had many tourism projects developed by domestic and foreign investors.
IHG now operates two Crowne Plaza hotels and four InterContinental hotels and resorts in Viet Nam, and aims for seven more properties in the country.
Apart from the Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay and Sol House Phu Quoc, M.I.K has invested in many other realty projects in HCMC such as Villa Park, Park Riverside, the Waterfront Saigon in District 1 and the Park Residence in Phu My Hung Urban Area in District 7.
