Da Nang Joins the Ranks of Michelin’s Top Foodie Destinations for 2025

Mi quang in Da Nang
The Michelin Guide has unveiled its list of the ten most exciting culinary destinations to explore in 2025, with Da Nang earning a well-deserved spot among the world’s top food cities. This vibrant coastal destination in central Vietnam has been recognized for its fresh seafood, rich local flavors, and diverse dining experiences ranging from bustling street stalls to fine dining establishments.

A Culinary Destination on the Rise

According to the Michelin Guide, food is a defining element of travel, offering visitors a deeper connection to a destination’s culture and history. Da Nang’s growing reputation as a food lover’s paradise has been gaining momentum, especially following the Michelin Guide’s debut in the city in June 2024. The city’s culinary landscape, deeply influenced by its seaside location and regional traditions, is now drawing global recognition.

Da Nang is renowned for its abundance of seafood, with prawns, squid, clams, and snails being staples in many of its signature dishes. The city’s culinary offerings reflect the essence of central Vietnamese cuisine—bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and a harmonious balance of textures and spices.

Signature Dishes Not to Miss

The Michelin Guide spotlights two must-try dishes in Da Nang: "mi quang" and "bun cha ca."

Mi Quang is a celebrated dish in central Vietnam, featuring thick rice noodles infused with a hint of turmeric. Unlike typical Vietnamese noodle soups, mi quang is served with just a small amount of broth, allowing the robust flavors of the meat or seafood to shine. Toppings often include shrimp, pork, chicken, or frog, along with fresh herbs, crushed peanuts, and crispy rice crackers for added texture.

Bun Cha Ca, another Da Nang specialty, is a fragrant fishcake noodle soup. The broth, made from simmered fish bones, carries a delicate sweetness balanced by tomatoes and pineapple. Diners can choose from traditional fishcakes or opt for additions such as tuna or mackerel, making it a dish that is both nourishing and deeply flavorful.

These dishes can be found throughout the city, from humble street stalls to well-established restaurants along Nguyen Chi Thanh and Le Hong Phong streets.

A Michelin-Recognized Dining Scene

Da Nang’s growing influence in the culinary world is further emphasized by its 36 restaurants featured in the Michelin Guide. This includes one One-Star restaurant and 16 Bib Gourmand establishments, which highlight exceptional quality at reasonable prices. The recognition cements the city’s status as a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts seeking authentic Vietnamese flavors and innovative dining experiences.

Adding to Da Nang’s appeal is its proximity to Hoi An and Hue, two UNESCO-listed cities known for their architectural charm and distinctive regional cuisines. This culinary-rich region offers travelers the chance to experience an extraordinary variety of Vietnamese food traditions within a short distance.

A Global Spotlight on Da Nang

Michelin’s endorsement of Da Nang as a top foodie destination is expected to further boost the city’s global profile, attracting travelers eager to explore its dynamic food scene. Beyond Michelin’s recognition, the city has also been highlighted by international travel platforms such as Travel Off Path, which recently named Da Nang and Hoi An among Asia’s most budget-friendly destinations for digital nomads in 2025.

With its rich culinary heritage, stunning coastal scenery, and rapidly evolving food scene, Da Nang is set to captivate even more travelers in the coming years. As the city continues to gain international acclaim, it remains a prime destination for those looking to indulge in the flavors of Vietnam while enjoying a warm and inviting atmosphere.
