The Eco Deals program, which has become a vital tool for eco-conscious travelers, aims to raise $1.5 million this year, surpassing the previous year's target of $1 million. The expansion of the program now covers 10 markets, including Japan and South Korea, alongside established destinations such as Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The program continues its commitment to donating $1 for every booking made at participating hotels, helping fund crucial environmental projects.
The Heart of Eco Deals
The funds raised through the Eco Deals initiative will support a variety of projects dedicated to preserving Asia's rich biodiversity. Among these projects is the restoration of wetlands in Japan, protecting the endangered spoonbills in South Korea, advancing tiger conservation efforts in Malaysia, and safeguarding whale sharks in the Philippines. Additionally, the program is committed to protecting elephants in Thailand, conserving the elusive saolas in Vietnam, and restoring ecosystems in Indonesia. It will also support urban wetlands development in Laos and provide resources for rangers in Cambodia working to safeguard natural habitats.
“Eco Deals 2025 marks an important step in Agoda’s long-term commitment to wildlife protection and conservation,” said Damien Pfirsch, Chief Commercial Officer at Agoda. “Through this program, we aim to ensure that future generations can explore the beauty of Asia while preserving the natural wonders that make these destinations so special.”
Expanding Impact Through Sustainable Tourism
The Eco Deals program is designed not only to raise awareness but also to create tangible impacts. Hotel partners participating in the program offer customers up to 15% off their bookings in exchange for supporting conservation efforts. These hotels are given the Eco Deals badge and are prominently featured on Agoda’s platforms, including social media and email campaigns, giving them valuable exposure.
Agoda’s expansion into the Sustainable Tourism Impact Fund, which will support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Southeast Asia, further strengthens this initiative. This fund aims to encourage sustainable practices among local businesses, ensuring that they can contribute meaningfully to the conservation goals of the region.
A Call for Broader Participation in Sustainable Tourism
The program has received significant support from various stakeholders. Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of public and private sector collaboration in advancing sustainable tourism. “Agoda and WWF’s work to promote responsible travel aligns perfectly with our goals for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, which emphasizes sustainability and community engagement in tourism.”Vivek Kumar, CEO of WWF-Singapore, reinforced the urgency of biodiversity conservation, referencing the alarming 73% decline in global wildlife populations, as reported in WWF’s 2024 Living Planet Report. “Our partnership with Agoda has already made meaningful strides in protecting endangered species and ecosystems across Asia. With the expansion into new regions, we’re poised to make an even greater impact.”
A Positive Future for Eco-Friendly Travel
Agoda’s continued collaboration with WWF and other organizations underscores its commitment to promoting sustainable travel practices and making a positive environmental and socio-economic impact. As travelers seek more eco-friendly options, initiatives like Eco Deals provide an accessible way for them to contribute to conservation efforts while enjoying affordable accommodations.
With the Eco Deals program running from January 20, 2025, to December 19, 2025, there is ample opportunity for travelers to book eco-conscious stays that give back to the environment. Agoda’s ongoing partnership with WWF ensures that every journey can play a part in protecting Asia’s wildlife and ecosystems, helping to shape a sustainable future for both travel and nature.
