Known as the “land of steel and land of tea” and possessing invaluable resources for the development of the tourism industry, Thai Nguyen currently has more than 1,000 historical and cultural relics that have been inventoried, more than 550 intangible cultural heritages that have been counted and has 535 tourist accommodation establishments. Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism, commented: Thai Nguyen is seizing the opportunity to develop tourism in line with the general trend of the country and the world. This is the reason why domestic and international tourists come to Thai Nguyen to experience, explore and relax.
In recent years, the number of visitors to Thai Nguyen has increased day by day. On average, in the period 2021-2023, the total number of tourists to Thai Nguyen increased by more than 29%/year. In 2024, the tourism industry continued to receive positive signals. From the beginning of the year to the end of September, areas and destinations in the province welcomed nearly 3 million visitors, an increase of 28.3% over the same period in 2023; tourism revenue reached 1,941 billion VND, an increase of nearly 35% over the same period in 2023.
Mr. Nguyen Tung Lam, Head of Tourism Management Department (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism), said: Like other destinations in the country, on weekends, especially holidays during the year, areas and destinations have a large number of tourists. For example, during the holidays of April 30 and May 1 and the National Day holiday of September 2, most areas and destinations are busy due to the large number of tourists; some hotels in Thai Nguyen City such as: Kim Thai; The King; Da Huong; May Plaza... have room occupancy rates of 80-100%.

However, in order for the smokeless industry of Thai Nguyen province to develop to its full potential and become a tourism center of the Viet Bac provinces, the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee has proposed many important solutions, including developing tourism in a professional direction, while focusing on building 4 typical product lines: Cultural, spiritual, historical, and origin tourism; Eco-tourism, resort tourism; Community and rural tourism; MICE tourism, sports, and adventure cave exploration.
The unique and different point compared to other provinces in the Viet Bac region and the whole country is that these 4 product lines are associated with tea culture. This will be a typical tourism product, creating a strong brand, creating high competitiveness, contributing to making tourism an important economic sector of the province.
Along with 4 typical product lines, the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee encourages businesses and tourism establishments to actively innovate, enhance the value of tourism-related products, create uniqueness and difference, and bring tourists new, impressive, and non-boring feelings.
In particular, in the construction and development of tourism products, Thai Nguyen advocates promoting traditional tourism types, while at the same time introducing many mechanisms and policies to attract investment and develop new high-end tourism products such as building golf courses associated with the development of commercial service urban areas; resorts, and ecological areas. Having unique, different products and warm-hearted people is the "attraction" of the "steel land, tea land".
