500+ precious antiquities from Red River Civilization come out of vaults and in displaying at Ha Noi Museum

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Ha Noi's Liberation Day (1954 - 2024), the Ha Noi Museum in collaboration with the Thang Long Antiques Association – Ha Noi, is holding an exhibition themed “From the Red River Civilization to Ha Noi Capital”.

More than 500 precious antiquities dating from the Bronze Age to the Ly, Tran, Le and Nguyen dynasties are on display at the Ha Noi Museum, offering an authentic view of the Red River civilization and spreading the love for Vietnamese ancient ceramics in particular and the nation’s ancient treasures in general.

The exhibition consists of four parts. The first part is about the Bronze Age of Dong Son, dating from the 5th century BC to the early 1st-3rd centuries AD, including drums, jars, knives, axes, human statues, and animal statues… These were mainly discovered and collected in the Northern Delta provinces and along rivers such as the Red River in Ha Noi, the Ma River in Thanh Hoa Province, and the Ca River in Nghe An Province.

Ceramic objects dating from the 11th-17th centuries, such as thạp (a container for storing food), chum (kind of jars, used to store water, soy sauce, fish sauce or agricultural products, seeds in small quantities in families in rural Vietnam), animal statues, teapots, lime pots, bowls, plates, discovered and collected in the provinces of Northern Vietnam such as Hai Duong, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.

Porcelains ordered in China by Vietnamese kings in the 18th-19th centuries, as well as Chinese porcelains from the 18th-19th centuries, including teapots, cups, plates, bowls, alcohol flasks, etc.

Chinese porcelain includes chum, chóe (object shaped like a rice jar put on the ancestral altar), flower pots, brush pots… mainly collected in Ha Noi, Nam Dinh (in the North), Hue (in the Center) and Ho Chi Minh City (in the South of Vietnam).

Lacquered and gilded wooden objects, as well as religious objects include altar boards, religious niches, calligraphy panels and statues dating from the 17th-19th centuries, collected from northern provinces and cities such as Ha Noi, Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong and Nam Dinh.

The exhibition opens until 30th October 2024.
