Hoshino Resorts News - A summer vacation for adults and children alike!

RISONARE is Hoshino Resorts' brand for countryside family stays to encounter experiences beyond imagination with nature-based activities and events inspired by local and seasonal festivals as well as exquisite culinary offerings. A variety of activities are offered for all ages, from adventurous to more relaxed options, ensuring that both children and adults are fully entertained. Annually, each resort hosts study sessions for elementary school children during the summer holidays to educate them about food, culture, and the environment. Here are a few activities offered at the resorts for children to participate in:

Farmer's Academy at RISONARE Tomamu, Hokkaido

The onsite golf course was converted to a farm area in 2019, and now approximately 30 cows roam the grounds freely, restoring the beautiful landscape. Circular farming is implemented, utilizing resort management. In the academy, children will learn about dairy farming and the characteristics of cows.They will also be tasked with directing the cows to a specific location. After this outdoor study, the young guests will make milk bread using Tomamu milk back in their guest rooms. Finally, a worksheet will be provided to summarize their findings and knowledge gained through the experience.

Fishermen's Academy at RISONARE Atami, Shizuoka

Fishermen's Academy at RISONARE Atami
Children will have the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a fisherman through a one-night, two-day program. They will learn how to set up ropes, go fishing and sell the fish at the market. Additionally, they will have the chance to learn about local fish species unique to the area, and how to use the fish to cook dishes, such as tsumire-jiru, fish ball soup, and deep-fried fish. This program aims to provide insight into the work of fishermen and to foster an appreciation for food.

・Program Price: 1 adult and 1 child for 50,000 JPY total (with additional 10,000 JPY per child)

Coral Academy at RISONARE Kohamajima, Okinawa

RISONARE Kohamajima is situated on an island in the Yaeyama Archipelago in Okinawa, surrounded by Japan's largest coral reefs. First, children will be introduced to the specifics of coral reefs with colorful illustrations and then learn more about the surrounding environment through beachcombing. After that, they will set off to the sea, where the largest coral reefs in Japan, Sekisei Lagoon, are located. While snorkeling, they will be able to see the living corals up close.

Chamorro's Academy at RISONARE Guam

Chamorro's Academy at RISONARE Guam
The indigenous Chamorro people of Guam not only extract juice from coconuts, but also scrape the mature fruit to make oil. Another reason the coconut is an essential fruit is that the oil in its outer skin is used to start fires. The program will start with a quiz about who the Chamorros are and how they live, followed by a hands-on experience to learn how to choose, peel and cook coconuts by making Manha titiyas, which are coconut crepes, a traditional home-cooked dish in Guam.
