LET'S EXPERIENCE TRADITIONAL CRAFTS!

Hakota Doll Studio
Hakota Ningyo (Hakota Dolls), a cherished tradition of Kurayoshi City since the Edo period, comprises papiermâché dolls representing women in kimonos.

Legend has it that these dolls were inspired when Edo-era merchants visited the city and were enchanted by a young girl's presence, prompting them to craft a doll in her likeness.

Crafting papier-mâché involves layering paper on a mold, drying it, removing the mold, and hand-painting the doll.

These dolls were originally created as children's toys with a heartfelt wish for their safety and well-being.

The Hakota Ningyo Workshop allows you to personally select and purchase these dolls.

Furthermore, you can participate in painting the faces of Hakota dolls and "Kurayoshi Hariko" animal-shaped dolls, taking your finished creations home on the same day.
