Vietjet today held its inaugural flight from Adelaide to Ho Chi Minh City, making it the first-ever Vietnamese carrier to fly between Vietnam and South Australia. This historic milestone marks the beginning of five weekly return flights between the two cities.
The new service was launched following yesterday ceremony to welcome Vietjet first non-stop flight connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Perth with a similar frequency.
The exciting expansion of Vietjet into Adelaide and Perth respectively will more than double the Vietjet’s weekly flights to Australia to 58 a week since this December. Less than a year after entering the Australian market in April 2023. Vietjet currently flies to five key Australian cities, including Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
Flights depart from Perth at 09:55 (local time) and land in Ho Chi Minh City at 15:40 (local time) every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Return flights to Perth will depart from Ho Chi Minh City at 06:35 (local time) and arrive in Perth at 14:20 (local time) every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
Flights from Adelaide depart at 07:25 (local time), layover in Perth, and land in Ho Chi Minh City at 15:40 (local time) every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Return flights to Adelaide will depart from Ho Chi Minh City at 06:35 (local time), layover in Perth, and arrive in Adelaide at 21:10 (local time) every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
Perth Airport Chief Operating Officer Scott Woodward, Deputy Premier Hon Rita Saffioti and the airline’s Vice President were there to welcome the flight and passengers as it touched down in Perth.

Vietnam is South Australia’s 12th largest export destination, with exports to Vietnam having increased by 32 per cent in the 12 months to September 2023, growing to almost half a billion dollars a year.
The service will offer increased accessibility for South Australia into valuable tourism markets, helping grow the state’s visitor economy which is currently worth $9.9 billion.
South Australian Tourism Minister, Zoe Bettison said: “It is terrific to have Vietjet now flying into Adelaide, the first Vietnamese airline to include our city as a regular destination – opening up significant opportunities for South Australia. Greater access to key tourism and trade markets in Asia is hugely valuable, with tourism in the Asian region currently worth $602 million to our state and exports to Vietnam now worth almost half a billion dollars a year. The South Australian Tourism Commission and Adelaide Airport have been working hard behind the scenes to secure more airlines and recover international aviation, and I am incredibly pleased that today’s milestone means more flights and more opportunities for our state.”
Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Brenton Cox said, “Eager travellers have already embraced the new service since it was first announced in early October, with solid ticket sales fuelled by South Australians wanting to explore the wonderful sights of Vietnam, and a reconnection of family and friends through our State’s vibrant Vietnamese community bringing visitors to South Australia.
“Vietnam has been a focus of ours for some time and we’re delighted that Vietjet has recognised the opportunity to add Adelaide to its network. We are confident the strong economic and tourism links between Vietnam and South Australia will translate into significant interest in these flights.”
