Lesser-known destinations in Brazil

Hotel Fasano Salvador
Fasano Hotels and Restaurants are highlighting lesser-known destinations in Brazil and their hotels there.

The group was started in 1902, when Vittorio Fasano, an Italian immigrant originally from Milan and the family patriarch, arrived in Brazil and opened a brasserie in São Paulo.

It now has a portfolio of nine hotels and 26 restaurants. Salvador Salvador, the capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Bahia, is known for its Portuguese colonial architecture, Afro-Brazilian culture and a tropical coastline.

The UNESCO-listed Pelourinho neighborhood is the historic heart, with cobblestone alleys opening onto large squares and baroque churches.

Each February, there is a spectacular parade celebrating Lemanjá, the Goddess of the Sea, when carnival bands gather at Rio Vermelho beach to perform.
