Kilmartin Museum will reopen in September following extensive renovation

Kilmartin Museum
It will showcase Argyll and Bute’s rich archaeological history and the last 5000 years of the surrounding Kilmartin Glen through stories, visualisations and artefacts.

The Kilmartin Glen is a rich prehistoric landscape with over 800 historic monuments cairns, standing stones, stone circles and rock art dating back over 5000 years.

The Museum has been closed for several years, undergoing a major redevelopment to offer visitors a much larger permanent exhibition and temporary display space.

Kilmartin Museum will also present artwork by local artists commissioned to create pieces relating to the history of Kilmartin Glen.

In the 1960s, Marion Campbell and Mary Sandeman undertook the first archaeological survey of Scotland’s Mid Argyll area.

Campbell went on to donate her collection of antiquities, which formed the foundation of Kilmartin Museum.
