Kyoto City Central Market Fishery Ward Visitor’s Area now Open

The visitor’s area of Kyoto City Central Market’s fishery ward opened on 1 April 2023. Visitors can observe the morning market trades through glass windows and learn about how the market operates and how the people play different roles there, allowing visitors to have a look into the background of Kyoto’s rich culinary culture.

Kyoto Central Market, the first wholesale market in the country, has a new viewing area for the public! It is expected to be a new highlight of Kyoto tourism, with an area for exhibitions and auction tours introducing the role and functions of the market.

  • A commemorative photo in front of a bursting tuna!
  • Take a virtual tour aboard a small truck used in the market!
