Wandering Wild, Dartmoor, Devon

Wandering Wild hiking and wild camp
The 6th season of Wandering Wild hiking and wild camp takes place on Dartmoor from April 2023.

It involves journeying on foot for three days in a ‘natural landscape devoid of modernity’, without speaking while walking.

Though conversation is OK in mornings and evenings and at lunch, the silence, when on the move, ‘stretches the sense of time and ability to pay attention through the senses to the experience’.

Wanderers walk in a slower tempo than a usual guided hiking trip with mediations and many breaks along the way.

The hiking will be with heavy backpacks carrying all of the gear and food for the weekend and will be in wild nature often walking on pathless ground with river crossings to navigate. A good standard level of fitness is required.

Upon arrival, ‘Wanderers’ will be lent a backpack with all that they will need and just need to bring a sleeping bag, clothes, walking boots and a few other items which will be listed in the comprehensive packing guide.

Dartmoor National Park is a vast moorland in the county of Devon, in southwest England. Dartmoor ponies roam its craggy landscape, defined by forests, rivers, wetlands and tors (rock formations).

Trails wind through valleys with Neolithic tombs, Bronze Age stone circles and abandoned medieval farmhouses. Princetown, home to Dartmoor Prison used during the Napoleonic Wars.
