St. Lucia Carnival

Each July, the Caribbean island of St Lucia stages carnival with elaborate costumes, intoxicating rhythms, parades. 

The festivities begin in the days leading up to the main event (street parade), with parties and celebrations across the island. Carnival evolved from the island’s mix of Catholic, Caribbean and African heritage.

Saint Lucia is known for the Pitons, its landmark pair of dramatically tapered mountains. The coastline has volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, luxury resorts and fishing villages. 

There are trails into the rainforest interior. The capital, Castries, is a popular cruise port.
