The island of Izu Oshima is famous for its tsubaki, or camellia flowers, which are celebrated during the Tsubaki Festival (late January to late March).
At the festival, millions of camellia blooms spread across its gardens, and the Camellia Plaza is filled with local folk performances and hands-on camellia dye workshops.
At night, the Tsubaki Flower Garden lights up, creating a fascinating space of starry sky and illuminated camellias.
