Background
The origin of bingata is said to be from the 13 century to the 14 century, and its technique, which flourished along with trade during the Ryukyu dynasty was valued as a gift or goods for trade. “Bin” refers to crimson color and “kata” refers to pattern. The patterns incorporate cultures and natures of countries that were in relation and the use of strong colors developed because it had to stand out even under the strong sunlight. This program is hosted in spring when plants are sprouting and blooming. Encounter the power of nature and feel rejuvenated through the creation of colorful bingata artwork.

Characteristics of Bingata Stay
1) Encounter the delicate techniques of Bingata

Bingata workshop, under the guidance of an artesian, will be hosted in the guest rooms facing our lush garden. The stencil to be used in this program is an original design supervised by the Ryukyu Bingata Cooperative Association. The design incorporates both traditional designs such as plum, peony, and motifs for celebration and good luck, and local design such as the ocean and flora unique to Okinawa. There are a couple of steps in Bingata and during this program, guests will experience two steps involved with coloring (dyeing). After a tour of Yuntaku Garden, the sensibility towards color can be translated on their bingata work. Bingata is then steamed in order for the dye to be fixed and the washing will be asked to be completed at home whilst following instructions provided.

2) Experience the colors created by Okinawa’s nature
Springtime is when plants sprout and bloom, the most beautiful and colorful time of the year. After arrival, guests can take part in the Yuntaku Garden tour to discover a variety of flora, where some are specific to Okinawa. It will be a time to absorb the bold color scheme created by the warm climate of Okinawa. In addition, a morning deep breathing exercise is included in the program so that the changing scenery and colors as the sun rises can be felt by the entire body.

3) Colorful lunch with background music of waves
For lunch, colorful sandwiches and soup filled with vibrant vegetables will be served. Okinawan flavors can be enjoyed, where the sandwich includes ingredients like rafute, stewed pork, and ninjin shirishiri, carrot salad. Enjoy the views and sounds of the ocean as you enjoy this meal from the terrace seats of the rooms.
