Tourism of the Ha Noi, the capital of Vietnam, needs to focus on recovery and develop quickly and sustainably

On January 14, Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh and Vice Chairman of Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen attended a conference to implement tourism development tasks in 2022, held by Ha Noi Department of Tourism.

According to a report of the Department of Tourism, due to the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on all sectors, the tourism industry of the capital is not an exception. The number of tourists slumped, in 2021, Ha Noi is estimated to welcome 4 million domestic tourists (equivalent to 53% compared to 2020). The average occupancy rate of 1-5 star hotels reached 23%, decreased 7% compared to 2020. The total receipts from domestic tourists is estimated at VND 11.28 trillion (equivalent to 40% in 2020 and accomplish 23% of the plan).

Under the circumstances, the capital tourism industry promptly advised the City People’s Committee to take measures to prevent and control the pandemic, actively implementing plans to recover and develop the capital tourism. At the same time, enterprises have restructured their markets, products and improved management capacity. Many new tours have been created, such as: night tour at Hoa Lo Prison relic, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, "French architecture in the heart of Ha Noi" walking tour, bicycle tours to explore Ha Noi's old quarter, tourism products by applying modern information technology to increase captivation with tourists…

Besides, the capital tourism industry attentively focuses on investing and developing in promotion, training tourism human resources, building destinations and upgrading quality of destinations, service management as well as cooperation for development.

In 2022, Ha Noi sets a goal to welcome and serve 9-10 million arrivals, including 1,2-2 million international arrivals; the total receipts from tourists is expected to be from VND27-35 trillion. The average occupancy rate of the accommodation is 40-45%.

Highly complimenting all the efforts of the capital tourism industry under the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic situation, Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh believed that the setting goal for 2022 expressing great determination, efforts to overcome difficulties, aiming to a flexible, safe and sustainable development of the city tourism.

During the past 2 years of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam tourism in general and Ha Noi tourism in particular has been facing several difficulties and challenges. Therefore, actively planning for a quick, solid and sustainable tourism development is the essential task at this moment.

In 2022, Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh suggested that the Ha Noi Tourism industry should speedily complete the process of ensuring safety in tourism activities. Together with the City People’s Committee submitting the proposal to the Government to enforce mechanisms and policies in supporting tourism businesses facing difficulties during the pandemic. Issue and effectively implement a tourism stimulus plan to attract domestic tourists. He is further expecting, with the implementation of the pilot plan to welcome international tourists, Ha Noi will increasingly promote its tourism and become one of the next localities to boldly implement the plan to welcome international tourists in the ‘vaccine passport’ form.

In the long term strategy, the capital tourism should take advantage of Ha Noi’s strengths such as culture, natural resources… prioritise in investing tourism facilities and infrastructures. Especially, Ha Noi needs to attentively promote tourism activities through digital transformation and develop ‘untouch’ tourism…

Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen suggested that the capital tourism industry needs to focus on administrative reform, attract socialisation resources, invest in potential projects; training and drawing human resources along with implementing effectively the digital transformation plan in tourism development; enhance media promotion…

Director of Department of Tourism - Ms. Dang Huong Giang indicated that they are drafting out a plan for tourism recovery and development in 2022-2023. In order to achieve the goal, the Department of Tourism will pile out the promotion in the media to draw tourists attentions; upgrade the quality of tourism products, tourists destinations associated with heritage - relics sites, craft villages; events and festivals imbued with the cultural identity of the capital, aiming for international integration such as: tourism festival - culinary culture, tourism gift festival, ao dai festival Ha Noi; organising a selection of Ha Noi tourism ambassadors and songs for Ha Noi tourism.
