One of the best things about travel is that when you go, you go because you’re looking to discover different. Different experiences, different scenery, different activities- and different local customs. Now our Australian borders are once again open for travel to the USA, here's an update on what's new and news and a window into some of the different, fun, and quirky aspects of the Great American West states- Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

From foodie treats (and tricks) to weird and wonderful experiences and larger- than- life roadside attractions, we’ve found the crazy, quirky side of the Great American West- and think you’re going to love it!

News, what’s new, and events for Fall and Winter
IDAHO
  • All signs point to a promising 2021-2022 ski season in Idaho. SKI Magazine just named Sun Valley the top ski resort in North America for the second year in a row. Sun Valley ranked No. 1 in Grooming, Lifts, Service, Dining, Lodging, Family, Local Flavor, and Overall Satisfaction.
  • Humbird Hotel at Schweitzer Set to Open: The largest ski resort in Idaho and Washington, Schweitzer will debut the contemporary 31-room Humbird Hotel in time for the 2021/2022 ski season. The new ski-in, ski-out boutique hotel will include a 50-seat restaurant and bar, the Crow's Bench. Reservations are open for stays beginning January 14, 2022, and beyond.
  • Sun Valley, America's first destination ski resort and the birthplace of the chairlift, turns 85 on Dec. 21 while Brundage Mountain celebrates its 60th birthday on Nov. 23.
  • Upgrades and expansions at Idaho ski resorts:Tamarack Resort; Soldier Mountain; Kelly Canyon Ski Resort

MONTANA

NORTH DAKOTA
  • Check out the best places to view North Dakota’s Fall colours;
  • November is Native American Heritage month. Discover and celebrate the beauty of Native American heritage and culture by inviting visitors to explore tribal lands, historic sites and museums, and to support Native American-owned businesses and casinos and resorts. National American Indian Heritage Month is a great time to pay tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans in North Dakota.

SOUTH DAKOTA
  • The 2021 Governor's Buffalo Roundup took place in September and was live-streamed. You can watch this unique event here. Attend in person in 2022 for an unparralleled experience and get up close and personal with these amazing animals in the beautiful Black Hills International Vinegar Museum & Festival: Hidden in the tiny town of Roslyn is the International Vinegar Museum, the headquarters for the annual International Vinegar Festival. Vinegar tasting might sound weird, but it’s delicious, fascinating, and very available at this festival.
  • One of South Dakota’s ‘Great Eight’ attractions Badlands National Park is home to fossils of three-toed horses and sabre-tooth cats and many other species. Now you can have one for your very own! The world’s biggest triceratops skeleton ever found, originally discovered on an ancient South Dakota flood plain currently known as the Hell Creek formation in 2014 is up for sale: Anyone?? WYOMING
  • Jackson Hole Mountain Resort : After five consecutive seasons of snowfall above 500″ and a forecasted La Niña on deck, weare excited to kick off the 2021-22 season with anticipation of another big winter.
