Local tourism operators Adrian and Rachel Bromage from Riversleigh Hotel in Bairnsdale have joined forces with the award winning Peninsula Hot Springs Group to build a new hot springs in the heart of Metung. Government grant funding has enabled additional funds to be raised and the project to begin.
Growing up visiting the original Metung springs as children, Rachel along with her husband Adrian have been passionate about reigniting the hot springs experience in their hometown, a long held dream that is soon to become a reality.
Fans of Peninsula Hot Springs, the Bromage's began talks with Peninsula Hot Springs Founder and Creative Director Charles Davidson in 2012.
They joined forces in 2018 to bring hot springs back to the town where they were first enjoyed in Victoria. The project has garnered support from both State and Federal Governments and is due to break ground in the coming months.
With an initial $6M infrastructure build, stage one will include a glamping village, a hot springs bathing zone and a planned 19th hole hot springs experience at the Kings Cove Golf Club (a public accessible course).
The development is centred around environmental regeneration and sustainability.
Stage two of the development includes the creation of a bathing valley, a hot springs hotel and a marina with pools and saunas with direct views over Lake King.
This project is expected to produce 35 jobs after completion of the stages, and a further 25 during construction. The flow on economic benefit to the region will be over $300 million at maturity.
Metung Hot Springs is positioned to be a major drawcard for the region, especially in the shoulder and winter seasons, mirroring the impact of Peninsula Hot Springs the premier attraction on the Mornington Peninsula, a region that is now the #1 day trip destination for those visiting Victoria.
Creating a new wellness destination in the pure natural setting of Metung will bolster all that Gippsland has to offer, attracting visitation year round. A 3.5 hour drive for guests visiting from Melbourne, Metung Hot Springs will add to the existing suite of experiences on offer in the region, increasing length of stay – good news for all in the community.
