Australian Traveller launches #ReclaimSummer to help Australians find their smile this summer

Australian Traveller is launching a new campaign today to help Australians rediscover the joy of summer, and to share it via the #ReclaimSummer hashtag.

"Many Australians are still hurting and bear very real scars from the fires and then the upheaval of COVID-19. We felt it important to give Australians the inspiration and confidence to get excited about this coming summer," says Australian Traveller Editorial Director Leigh-Ann Pow.

"We were so touched that many prominent and respected Australians wanted to join in the campaign and help lift Aussie spirits as we head into summer."

Prominent Australians who have contributed their personal summer stories and reflections include (PDFs in links):
His Excellency, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd)
Miranda Tapsell
Julia Zemiro
Matthew Evans
Curtis Stone

To give Aussies even more inspiration, Australian Traveller has published summer photo essays from eight photographers.

"Images of an Aussie summer immediately give us a lift - it's in our DNA as Australians to feel better when we see our glorious country in Summer," Pow continues.

“A roster of brilliant female photographers from each state and territory in the country accepted our challenge to capture summer through their lens, resulting in a comprehensive photo essay of what summer looks like across Australia, in all its bright, warm, sun-drenched beauty.”

The eight photographers are (PDFs in links):
• Kara Rosenlund, QLD profiling North Stradbroke Island
• Elise Hassey, NSW profiling Yamba
• Annette O'Brien, VIC profiling The Great Ocean Road
• Lean Timms, ACT featuring Canberra
• Millie Brown, South Australia featuring Robe
• Rosie Hastie, Tasmania featuring surfing around Dunalley
• Emma Pegrum, Western Australia featuring Perth and Rottnest Island
• Leicolhn McKellar, Northern Territory featuring East Arnhem Land

More reflections on summer in Australia are part of the Reclaim Summer content:
• A thought provoking feature article, Summer of Love, that looks back on a tough 12 months for Australia and celebrates our national spirit and sunnier times ahead.
Regeneration Mallacoota takes a revealing look at recovery in East Gippsland's favourite holiday spot.
• Best of Summer in Australia by family destinations, road trips, places to stay, campgrounds, regional retreats, coastal getaways and city experiences.

Reclaim Summer is for all Australians: Australian Traveller is calling on everybody to help lift each other's spirits by sharing on social media how they are going to #ReclaimSummer this year.

"It may be as simple as returning to your favourite fishing spot or learning to surf or just watching the sunset from your favourite watering hole. Whatever will make you feel some sense of normalcy is #ReclaimSummer," Pow says.

The campaign includes the Reclaim Summer print edition of Australian Traveller magazine on sale now and the digital hub on australiantraveller.com.
